- Bovendaal
- The Bovendaal was a district located on the flanks of the Galgenberg hill that was notorious in early modern Brussels as the haunt of unsavory types, including thieves and prostitutes. The narrow lanes of the district were closed off by barriers in the 16th century and a wall was erected around the area in 1628. The barrier was torn down in 1642.
